Professional Pet Care Built on Decades of Experience
Carden Kennels and The Uncommon Dog are the Greater Bangor area's premier facilities for pet boarding, daycare, and grooming. With over 20 years of hands-on experience in animal care and behavior, owner Janet has built two facilities grounded in industry best practices, ongoing professional education, and a deep understanding of what animals need to feel safe and comfortable in a care environment.
Our approach is informed by certifications through the International Boarding & Pet Services Association (IBPSA) and continued coursework in animal behavior, facility management, and health protocols. Every operational decision — from the design of our lodgings to how we structure play groups — is guided by established standards of care, not guesswork.
What sets us apart is our commitment to individualized care. Every animal has distinct needs, temperament, and comfort levels. Our trained staff evaluates and adapts to each guest, whether that means adjusting group dynamics, accommodating dietary requirements, or providing a quieter environment for animals that need it. Learn more about our story and the values that guide everything we do.
We serve dogs, cats, and small pets across two purpose-built locations in Bangor and Holden. Whether you need overnight boarding, structured daycare, or professional grooming, our facilities and staff are equipped to provide the standard of care your pet deserves. Visit our frequently asked questions page for answers, or explore our careers page if you share our commitment to professional animal care.
